It’s Oscar weekend in Los Angeles, and the biggest names in fashion and film are already celebrating in high style. On Friday evening, Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Radhika Jones, Yves Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello, and Universal Pictures chair Donna Langley co-hosted a dinner and party in honor of best-picture frontrunner Oppenheimer at a historic residence in the Hollywood Hills.

Among those styled personally by Vaccarello was model-turned-actor Laura Harrier, who began modeling at age 17 and has gone on to win acclaim for acting roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, and Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood. Just days ago, it was announced that Harrier will portray the trailblazing music executive Suzanne de Passe in Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming Michael Jackson biopic.

Harrier’s look was chic with a rock-and-roll edge that called to mind such musical legends as Diana Ross (one of Saint Laurent’s newest ambassadors), Sade, David Bowie, and Grace Jones. It’s no surprise she cited Cate Blanchett’s backless Jean Paul Gaultier gown from 2002 as one of her all-time favorite Oscar looks.

Vacarello joined Saint Laurent in 2016 after a successful tenure as head of creative at Versus Versace. Since taking over the brand, he has infused it with sensuality, sophistication, and new-age glamor, giving patrons an opportunity to feel like the most confident version of themselves. “He creates worlds you want to be a part of,” Harrier said. “I think he is always on the cutting edge while still being able to reference Yves St. Laurent himself in an incredible way that pays tribute to his genius while creating a path of his own.”

Vacarello is known to consider every aspect of his designs, down to the accessories, and Harrier’s ensemble was no exception. “The cuff is to die for and the diamond ring sparkles in a way that makes your heart skip a beat,” she said.

Asked about her newly announced role in Michael, Harrier said, “It is such an honor to be portraying such an incredible, iconic woman, and to be working with Antoine Fuqua, who is a director that I've been dreaming of working with for a long time.”

Harrier was joined at the intimate gathering by a glittering crowd that included Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Wilde, Zoe Kravitz, Channing Tatum, Donald Glover, Hailey Bieber, Salma Hayek Pinault, and François-Henri Pinault, as well as a trio of headlining Oppenheimer nominees: Christopher Nolan, Cillian Murphy, and Robert Downey Jr. Guests handicapped Sunday’s race over burgers and fries wrapped in Saint Laurent–branded black-and-white containers. Such is the combined cultural force of the evening’s hosts that even the house where the party took place—a modern masterpiece designed by John Lautner and owned by producer Mitch Glazer and actor Kelly Lynch—has had a Vanity Fair feature written about it.
