Vanity Fair’s Limited Series Fear Not Stars Anne Hathaway as a Faithful Mother Who Escapes a Serial Killer

In the 2023 VF story “Sympathy for the Devil,” Margy Palm finally spoke about being kidnapped by a serial killer in the early 1980s. Now her story is coming to Paramount+ in a limited series.

In 2023, Vanity Fair told the story of Margy Palm, a mother of two who came face-to-face with a notorious serial killer and lived. In “Sympathy for the Devil,” Palm opened up to Julie Miller about her harrowing captivity at the hands of Stephen Morin—who was suspected of more than 30 murders—and how her patience and prayers kept him at bay long enough for her to figure out a daring escape.

Now that acclaimed article is being adapted into a Paramount+ limited series starring Anne Hathaway as Palm, the survivor who formed a bond with the man who nearly ended her life. With Bash Doran (Outlaw King) as showrunner and Miller as a consulting producer, Fear Not will premiere in 2027.

“By grounding this chilling true story in the lived experience of our protagonist, Anne is bringing a level of nuance and gravity to the screen that only a performer of her caliber can,” says Jane Wiseman, head of originals for Paramount+. “At Paramount+, we are always looking for stories that captivate and entertain our audience, and this series will do exactly that.”

Palm; her husband, Bart; and their daughter, Noelle, will serve as executive producers on the series, along with Steve Stark and Stacey Levin for Toluca Pictures and Helen Estabrook for Vanity Fair Studios. Hathaway, Adam Shulman, and Johnathan Rice will executive-produce for Somewhere Pictures.

The series, also written by Doran, will tell the story of Palm’s kidnapping and what transpired in the aftermath. Morin was ultimately convicted of three murders and executed in 1985. During his incarceration, Palm visited him in prison about 15 times.

At first, Palm was hesitant to tell her story widely; she spoke to VF only after years of privately coming to terms with the trauma. “I’ve grown a lot in the past few years and learned about trauma and how to talk about these things,” she told Miller. After processing her own story, Palm added, she even developed a taste for horror movies: “I like to see how people make it through.”
