The Golden Globes 2026 ceremony began with a solid monologue from second-time host Nikki Glaser, then rolled straight into some of the ceremony’s highest-stakes awards. Attendees had just settled into their seats when the first category, best supporting actress in a motion picture, was announced—and then Teyana Taylor’s win for One Battle After Another had them back on their feet.
That wasn’t the only win for top-nominated One Battle After Another. Paul Thomas Anderson took home the best-director and best-screenplay awards for the film, which also triumphed in the category for best musical-or-comedy motion picture. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, the night’s third-most-nominated film, also did well, with wins in cinematic and box office achievement and best original score.
It was also a good night to be a Shakespeare fan—or from Brazil. Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley beat out the best-drama-actress competition—and in an upset that shook the room, her film about the love story between Agnes and William Shakespeare beat out The Secret Agent to win the award for best drama motion picture. But all was not lost for the ’70s-set film about Brazil’s military dictatorship: The Secret Agent won best non-English-language picture, as well as best drama actor for star Wagner Moura.
In the TV categories, Adolescence followed its triumphs at the Critics Choice Awards with several more wins, as did The Pitt and, in a meta twist, The Studio. Only The Pitt will still be eligible to repeat these wins at the Emmys in the fall—but at least, as with the Globes, Heated Rivalry will not be skating in to spoil any longer-standing shows’ awards dreams.
